Biograpy
Stephen La Frenie has been performing and teaching physical theatre for over 40 years. His training includes Ecole Jacques Lecoq, Mime School Unlimited, Tony Montanaro and Dean Gilmour.
He has taught across Canada and in Australia conducting workshops for high school, elementary schools and professionals. He has found fulfillment in teaching students to realize their potential; to bring about an awareness of themselves as individuals and thus the unique perspective they bring to their environment. Stephen has received multiple Artist in the School grants from the Ontario Arts Council over the years.
He has created/co-created over 20 shows and performed in over 30. He has performed live and on television with various companies such as Nelvana Productions (Elliot Moose), The Canadian Opera Company, Cirque Soleil, Metaphysical Theatre, Cascade Theatre, Manna Productions, Faustwork Mask Theatre and the award winning Keystone Theatre. He has traveled with his work across Canada, to Spain, Australia, France, Hungary, Jamaica, Haiti and the U.S.A.
His outreach and volunteer work has also spanned thirty years. His work has included workshops for emotionally and physically abused teenagers, adult prisoners, the Portage School for Young Offenders, physically and mentally challenged students and actors. Stephen has been traveling with Third World Awareness since his first trip in 1996 which now works in Haiti.
He continues his association with the award winning Keystone Theatre having co-created their latest productions of "Gold Fever" and the "The Last Man on Earth" with both premiering at the Toronto Clown Festival and successfully touring the Fringe Theatre circuit.
